Video and Interviews after the JUMP…
- Surprised when Pia was voted off? He and Pia had a close bond. He knew how bad she wanted to win…more than he did. It was very shocking when she was eliminated.
- How music changed his life: It’s hard to show your chops on the show. His original music and piano playing is something he wanted to keep close to himself. He found out he could sing in band. He lives and breathes music. Can’t wait to collaborate on songs.
- Did he think he would survive last night? He’d been through the process of B3 so many times. He stayed in the moment. Leaving at 7 doesn’t reflect on who he is as a musician. Now it’s time to work. There’s a wide open market out there “Im ready to pounce on it.”
- “James is a little crybaby” (laughs) He’s my best friend. I’m going to be the best man at his wedding. They were roomies since Hollywood.
- He told James “not to worry about me.” Stefano did everything he set out to do on the show. On James “We’re brothers for life”.
- He feels he stayed true to who he is. He’s learned so much as a performer and is ready to take it to the next step.
- What does he have that will make him successful “Everything is timing. Right now there’s a market for what I can do. The producers know it. My managers know it and I know it.” As far as a musician and a performer, I wasn’t able to show everything that I had. “I’m going in a different direction than any other Idol has…collaborations with rappers.”
- “That was probably the first kiss he’s had in a long time” joking about the Casey Jlo kiss.
- Stefano met Mark Ballas last week. He’s “a really cool guy”.
- About his schedule – Never had a day off. That’s the industry, that’s the business, that’s everything we wanted. If you got 4 or 5 hours sleep that was great. It’s star school. It’s so valuable, so amazing.
- The studio days and ford shoot days were 16-18 hour days. Lots of “hurry up and wait.” It really prepares you for what you’ve got to be ready for.
- Thinks his fan base are fans of music. Didn’t get to show the John Legend/Stevie wonder side of him. He’s going to try to make his mark in that niche.
- Why did he choose the Smokey N/gospel song. He’s a spiritual man.
- The judges told him that he’ll succeed if he keeps working at it. He’s close with both Marc and Jennifer. “Look, you can do this…go get em” the judges said.
- He plans to stay in Los Angeles. He’s going to spend the next 5 weeks “networking and hustling” He’s got some “good stuff” lined up.
- Disappointments? “If you’re going to be in this industry…it’s cut throat” Nothing surprised him going into it. He’s too positive a person to get down. He plans to “bust his butt” to get to the next level.
- Did it ever occur to him to play the piano? The songs that he picked that showed who he was as a musician. He did not want people seeing him playing the piano on a cover. He wanted to save that moment for his heartfelt originals. (I still don’t understand his attitude on this)
- He was never nervous until he was on live TV. He sang “I heard it through the grapevine” & “Just the way you are” on the field in the Cattle Call.
- He thinks Jimmy would make a good judge, but doesn’t think he’d take the job. “He works with the artist one on one.”
- “I’ve got a lot of stuff in the bag that I haven’t hit yet” says Stefano.
- He was grateful to be chosen as a wildcard.
- Interscope noticed that he “sucked in” everything they said. Felt he improved over the course of the show. He didn’t peak. He loved the advice.
- On the changes they were asking him to make (closing his eyes): “It was very hard. My eyes are closed because I’m really into the song. I learned that’s not what connects to the people. I worked on it. I can now really look into the camera.”
- He practiced keeping his eyes open looking in the mirror.
- How did he feel about his elimination? I was completely at peace and at ease, says Stefano.
- Did his DUI arrest cause his b3 appearances? Stefano thinks it was just a coincidence.
- Is there anything he would have differently? Picking “Hello”. He was pushed to do it. He had never heard it before. He had to concentrate to hard on remembering the words and remembering the notes.
- 1 year 2 years tops before he wins a Grammy (He was probably joking. A little bit)
- He would love to collaborate with Bruno Mars, John Legend, Kanye West
